about yenta room

as a queer person, i was sick of being surrounded by the sameness of the studio space. to create art from an authentic place, i felt it was necessary to form a container to allow artists the resources and knowledge to freely express themselves.

hi! i am kai aka good yenta. i am producer, audio engineer, multi-instrumentalist and installation artist. my work is heavily influenced by mentorships with industry changemakers such as steve albini and william parker, as well having been taught by a disciple of pauline oliveros. my specialties range from producing hard hitting PJ Harvey inspired deep cuts to writing and performing hour-long post-rock meditations on capitalism, i have a BA in experimental music and audio technology from bennington college, as well as over 15 years of musical experience.

i would love to collaborate with you on your next musical endeavour!

RECORDED WORK

  • "Their personal style and creative eye bolsters a piece of music and their humility keeps an artist’s needs primary."

    -production client

  • "What sustains a life in music is character: presence, stewardship, curiosity, and the willingness to serve the music itself. Kai embodies these qualities."

    -william parker, free jazz legend

  • “I hired Kai [again] to help me build out the full production, structure, and mixing for another song of mine. They were super patient, receptive, and met me where I was at musically. I felt safe enough to tap into the vulnerability it takes to bare your soul in making music.”

    —Engineering + production client

  • "Kai was very communicative, and professional, asked constructive questions about the sound I was looking for…very knowledgeable and timely. hope to work with them again!"

    —mastering client

  • "How did you do that?"

    -marie, production client
